One Day Mushroom Growing Course @ GroCycle Mushroom Farm

Come to our farm for the day and learn how to grow mushrooms with our popular 1 day mushroom growing courses.
You'll take a short tour of our farm and then do some practical sessions inoculating some bags of substrate and logs.
You'll also learn the basics of mushroom cultivation theory and take home with you:

What You Will Learn
The course includes a mixed learning style, incorporating some theory lessons, alongside a larger proportion of practical hands-on sessions.
You will learn:
- The fundamentals of mushroom biology & cultivation
- The key aspects of 'Low-Tech' mushroom cultivation
- A tour of our mushroom farm
- How to grow Oyster mushrooms on straw and coffee grounds
- How To grow Shiitake mushrooms on logs
- How to cultivate your own low-tech mushroom spawn from the stems of freshly harvested Oyster mushrooms

Our amazing team has a lot of experience in mushroom cultivation and in education and teaching workshops.
You'll find us friendly, knowledgeable and enthusiastic teachers, ready to pass on our skills and experience to you.
Our farm has pioneered low-tech and simple ways to grow mushrooms and this approach is behind everything that you will learn.
The workshop program has been designed and developed also by Adam & Eric who run GroCycle, and incorporates all the learning and knowledge from more than a decade of mushroom growing.
Frequently Asked Questions
What course dates are available?
We currently have a series of dates running this spring 2020 during March - May. Please check the calendar option at the top of this page and look for the dark blue boxes to see which dates have spaces available.
What do I need to bring?
- A packed lunch (we will provide tea/coffee/biscuits but do bring something to eat at lunchtime)
- Some warm clothes if it's cold/wet (we'll be undercover, but outside for much of the day)
- An electric drill if you have one (to help with drilling into the logs - no problem if you don't have one as we have some here as well)
What time do the courses run?
All course run from 10am - 4pm. You are welcome to arrive from 9.45am onwards for tea/coffee etc.
How many people are on your courses?
There are 2 course instructors and a maximum of 15 places for each workshop.

We are based at Unit 8 Old School Farm, Dartington Estate, Totnes, Devon, TQ9 6EB
Do you offer discounted places for people in receipt of benefits?
We are currently developing a program that will enable us to offer subsidised places for those in receipt of benefits.

Will we cover anything to do with setting up a mushroom business?
No. This workshop is designed to teach the basics of how to grow mushrooms for home scale cultivation and the focus is on learning practical techniques.

Is it possible to swap course dates or cancel?
Yes, you can cancel or reschedule if you notify us 7 days or more before the course date that you have booked for. See this page for full info.
Do you offer gift vouchers?
Although we currently don't have a gift cards system in place, you can simply book a place on the course and then contact us to say that it is for a gift and someone else will be attending.
